Silleda (pontevedra) adds to the use of biomass

Red Heat Silleda

In just one year, Silleda must have developed an ambitious thermal energy distribution project that has just been subsidized by the Inega (the second largest received by the municipality) with 653.270 euros, the 80% of the 816.587 of the total that the Concello complements.

Silleda will take care of six public buildings with biomass thermal energy. The project of heat network it is based on a production plant that will feed on biomass sliver (the City Council will study if it can also use gorse and other materials). In this first phase it is expected that the endowment will cover the needs of hot water and heating in the Children's School, the sports pavilion, the municipal swimming pool, the soccer field, the future residence and day center and a Spa Hotel. Combining public buildings with the hotel with whom an agreement will be signed.

The network is designed for one megawatt of power, and a network of almost two kilometers of pre-insulated pipe. It is estimated that this initiative reduces the expulsion of CO2 in 342 tons per year, which will be 380 when the second phase is completed. It also supposes a economic savings for the fuel exchange of 81.000 euros per year and 93.000 when the two phases are active.
