vigo ecospital hospital

Burela, Calde, Monforte, Verín and Barbanza will use 2.200 tons of biomass per year, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 3.030 tons per year. José Luis López González, Engineer from SERGAS (Galician Health Service), stated at the Innova en Verde conference organized by PEFC, that “the introduction of biomass of forest origin as a source of renewable energy in Sergas contributes to giving greater added value to the forest wealth of Galicia, to the valorization of a forest residue and all this leads, therefore, to invigorate the rural environment by fixing population, also reducing the risk of forest fires ”. According to López, through this initiative a net creation of more than 22 direct and 32 indirect jobs in the forestry sector is estimated, and contributes to the cleaning and management of the forest on an area of more than 3.300 hectares. The biomass consumed in these hospitals has a certificate PEFC and the pellets used are ENplus.
