Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori explained at the launch that “Helsinki is strongly committed to mitigating climate change. We must get all sectors to reduce their emissions. This plant is a perfect example of using renewable energy to produce heat in the city ”.

It is replacing coal with biofuels to increase the renewable share of its energy production. At full load, the consumption of pellets is approximately 21 tons per hour. Biomass comes from sustainable forest uses.
