Waste of coffee and diesel, the new gasoline that will drive London buses (or so they hope)

Coffee-based fuel

The technology company Bio-Bean has been dedicated to industrialize the recycling process for convert coffee grounds into biofuels and chemical products, and will test the results on London buses. As the BBC reveals, he wants to run a bus for a year, but he will need 2,55 millions of cups of coffee to get it.

This biofuel, a mixture called 'B20', is made by first mixing the coffee oil extracted from the residual coffee grounds with other fats and oils. These oils are then used to create biodiesel, which in turn is mixed with mineral diesel. According to the company, B20 biodiesel offers a reduction of 10-15% in CO emisiones emissions compared to traditional diesel, while preventing waste coffee from being sent to the landfill where it releases methane, which is 28 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
