Biomass is an incipient business in Mexico but there are sectors that are betting on this technology. The booming tequila industry is one of them; the Tequila Regulatory Council's sustainability strategy includes the installation of biomass boilers

At Jalisco state, the zone of Mexico where tequila is produced, the distillery of the Cazadores brand, owned by Bacardi Limited, feeds its boiler with 20.000 annual tons of biomass, produced from the waste generated by the production of this liquor.

An 60% of these residues come from the remains of the fibers of the agave plants used as raw material for the production of tequila, and the remaining 40%, consists of clean wood waste, biomass briquettes, sawdust, peel coconut and remains of other plants.

And it is that one of the sectors with the greatest potential for biomass valorisation en Mexico, in addition to the sugar mills where it is most used today, is the booming tequila industry, from which you can take advantage of agave residues, the plant where the tequila is extracted, to feed the boilers.

It is because of that Expobiomasa 2017 organize a Business round with Mexico the next September 26, in which they participate 17 Mexican businessmen and professionals, from 12 companies and in which entrepreneurs interested in making commercial agreements or venturing into the Mexican market can participate. Among the professionals who visit us, 4 come from the State of Jalisco.

Tequila, one of the emblematic products of Mexico "Must become a gift obtained respecting the principles of sustainability, "Points out the Sustainability Strategy of the Agave-Tequila Chain, of 2016, elaborated by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) and adds "the tequila producing industry should have a long-term vision and be engaged in protect the environment whose quality it depends so much. "

In the aforementioned strategy, the CRT commits to reduce the direct carbon footprint in 10% and 2020% in 25%, in 2030. It also expresses its intention to reduce energy consumption of fossil origin in 7% in the 2020 and 12%, in 2030, among other measures. The installation of biomass boilers It is one of the actions to follow to achieve these goals.
