Castilla Termal bets on biomass plants to reduce its carbon footprint

Castilla Termal Hotels is channeling its efforts into achieving carbon neutrality. To achieve this goal, establishments Plots, Burgo de Osma and Brihuega -the latter, under construction- are installing biomass plants, a sustainable heating system that relies on leftover chips from local sawmills and the remains of the nearby forest mass. In this way, these 3 hotels will be added to those of Valbuena and Olmedo, which already have these plants as a heating system.

The biomass It is an efficient, sustainable heat production system with neutral carbon emissions due to its fuel base: chips and forest waste. The biomass boilers that the chain already has in operation, added to those that it plans to install during 2022, cover 100% of the thermal needs of its buildings, which allows Castilla Termal Hoteles to disconnect the service connections from gas.

In the words of Jonathan Callejo, technical director of the hotel chain, “our degree of commitment to the environment is absolute. We live by and for sustainability, because we believe we have that moral duty. For this reason, each action and each decision in the management of our hotels is linked to caring for the planet, although this sometimes entails higher costs. We work daily to achieve a zero carbon footprint”.

Castilla Termal Valbuena is a 100% sustainable hotel that, today, can supply itself with the use of renewable energies and its own thermal, cold and heat production.

This establishment is already committed to the use of biomass boilers for the thermal production of heat throughout the hotel, it stands out for having installed a geothermal well that is capable of supplying the entire cold circuit and, with its recovery circuits, heats the DHW (Sanitary Hot Water) and the dehumidifiers of its swimming pools and contrast areas. The mineral-medicinal water of its spa is a precious commodity and, for this reason, it is filtered and treated to be reused in the irrigation of its adjoining gardens; such as the green roof that was created on top of the building, and which has won several significant awards for its construction, design and thermal efficiency.
