The new Professional Pellet Analyzer (PPA) developed by BEA Institut für Bioenergie will be at #Expobiomasa2017

The Professional Pellet Analyzer (PPA) is a fully automatic device for determining the moisture content, apparent density, mechanical durability and temperature of wood pellets. 100% works automatically by sampling and testing the pellets. The analysis frequency is up to one sample every 30 minutes and is ensured due to high calibration accuracy and excellent reproducibility. The instrument passes a "round-robin" test and can be delivered with an annual external calibration control.

Outstanding advantages: Automatic process control; allows a production of pellets without manipulation; eliminates the influence of personnel on the results of the tests; quality is continuously recorded and evaluated; the results can be used for process control and optimization; quality remote control installed and the results can be displayed in the control room or on the Internet; reduces labor for internal quality control.

Operation: The PPA takes a sample of pellets from the product flow (pneumatic system). In the pellet separation unit the granules are separated from the powder and passed to the device to determine bulk density, moisture content and temperature. To determine the mechanical durability, the pellets are weighed and moved by means of an elevator. Then they are sifted and dropped into a container. After turning them they are sieved again and weighed. Calibration is guaranteed according to the reference standards (ISO 17828, ISO 17831-1 and ISO 18134-2).

The PPA has been developed for quality control in pellet production plants as required for quality management systems such as ENplus or DINplus. It can also be used in other places, where frequent monitoring of the quality of the granules is required (for example, recharging points, warehouses, ports, ...). Granules can also be measured from materials other than wood, and in this case a specific calibration is required.

The target customers are all pellet mills with a capacity of around 50.000 t / year or more, as well as, for example, the inspection companies operating in the ports. The installation of the instrument is adapted to the needs of the client. Sampling can be done from the product flow in pellet production, in silos or warehouses or in loading facilities. The distance between the sampling point and the Pellets Analysis Tower can be up to 20 m.
