The biomass supplies all the Spanish energy demand during 28 days in 2018

European Day of bioenergy

He 'Day of Bioenergy in SpainThis year the 3 of December is again celebrated, date that coincides with the beginning of the period from which the biomass can satisfy all the energy demand of the country until the end of the year. Therefore, Spain maintains 28 days of energy self-sufficiency only with biomass, similar to the previous year, so it falls to the 25 position of the European ranking, now also behind Greece and Belgium, according to the statistics of Bioenergy Europe.

From Avebiom, organizer of EXPOBIOMASA, the progress of Spain is negatively assessed, behind other European countries with similar or lesser potential, due to the lack of strong support from the administrations that have slowed the progression. The Government of Spain is being asked to "take urgent measures if it wants to comply with the European objectives to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels, highly polluting, which greatly imbalance our national balance of payments because they are not endogenous resources, as biomass is."

As is known, the European Union has set the goal of reducing 80% emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050, compared to the levels of 1990, and has recently approved the increase of the contribution of renewable energy in the energy mix up to an 32%.

Bioenergy is the most important source of renewable energy in Europe, since it represents 63% of the total consumed. Not only that, it has also become the first source of indigenous energy ahead of gas and coal.
