Heineken will use olive biomass to make its beers

cruzcampo uses biomass

Richard Weissend, the president of Heineken in Spain, announced that his La Imora plant in Jaén will use olive pruning as fuel.

The necessary infrastructure will be built throughout the 2019 year and will involve an investment of 1,4 million euros. The fuel that will be used is the pruning of the olive grove of the own region and its use will suppose different advantages. On the one hand, for the farmers it will mean a saving in the costs of eliminating the pruning material. It is estimated in 5 million kilos of olive pruning necessary annually for the operation of the factory. On the other hand, the use of biomass 2.500 tons of CO2 will reduce by almost 100% of the current direct emissions of the factory.
