Biomasa-AP will optimize the use of agroforestry biomass in Galicia and northern Portugal

Biomass-AP presentation

Biomass-AP, a cross-border cooperation project that aims to optimize the use of agroforestry biomass with high energy and economic potential in Galicia and Northern Portugal, specifically biomass from pruning remains, bushes, vines and kiwi. Biomasa-AP is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014 - 2020.

Different studies show that biomass from pruning, shrub, vine and kiwi remains is a resource with great potential in this Euroregion, both from the energy and economic point of view. The data shows that the biomass is highly available and that, in addition, it is not currently being valued: area of more than 50.000 hectares of vineyard in the Euroregion, 12.099 tons of kiwi produced in Galicia or the extension of the production area of kiwi in 300 hectares in Portugal.

Faced with this situation, Biomasa-AP proposes the implementation of different measures aimed at energetically valorising the waste of pruning, bushes, vine and kiwi, which will reduce the costs of its management, generate employment through the creation of new products and improve , in short, the competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sectors.
