BIO-BLOC, modular system for thermal energy generation using hot air turbine technology from biomass and waste present in Expobiomasa thanks to INNERGY

Modular innergy system presented to the Expobiomasa innovation awards

The new product presented by INNERGY at Expobiomasa as a world first, has the following characteristics and advantages:

  • Boiler or pressure equipment removal, as well as water / steam or oil as heat transfer fluid to move the turbine, which allows us to escape the legal restrictions associated with this type of equipment, with respect to the "boiler operation" and the manufacture of vessels under pressure with additional costs. Likewise, the absence of fluids means a saving in water (and their respective treatments), as well as the expensive thermal oil, and organic fluid, required in ORC processes.
  • Compact and transportable design. The entire system is designed as "blocks", so we can basically transport and assemble the power generation plant almost anywhere due to the "plug and play" design concept. Likewise, the absence of complex fluid circuits allows the “transportable” solution to be proposed.
  • Due to the approach of a generation system using Brayton cycle of external combustion, we can produce electricity and heat independently without the need to maintain a fixed ratio, as in steam or ORC systems, being able to release hot air to free exhaust (without the need for expensive dissipation systems) or generate hot / superheated water, thermal oil or even saturated steam at will.
  • Lower electric consumption and greater net efficiency.

Due to its small dimensions and versatility, it provides a very attractive solution to small waste generators or municipalities that want to give a commercial outlet to their waste, and in turn have thermal needs, such as swimming pools, schools, spas, hotels, or industrial processes, in which to use this heat.

The special configuration of the plant allows its fully automatic operation, at a minimum cost, compared to other technologies existing in the market. As a result of the development, it is also planned to define different work modes for complex fuels such as bamboo, rice husk, and others that, due to their low cost, will allow a quick return on investment.

INNERGY has developed this product with a view (in a first phase) to the Japanese market, once it has reached a lower cost by scaling production to higher volumes, being able to introduce it worldwide, both in LATAM and in Europe.

INNERGY has presented this candidacy for the Innovation Prize Expobiomasa 2019. More information about the Innovation Award here
