The high potential in Mexico of the use with biomass of the RSU

mexico leads the business round in expobiomasa

One of the uses of biomass with great potential in Mexico is the use of urban solid waste, with a double objective: that it solves the growing problem of what to do with garbage and at the same time, contributes to meeting the country's requirements in matter of climate change. The 2012 Climate Change Law aims to reduce emissions by 30% in 2020, with respect to the year 2000. And generate 35% of electricity with renewable sources in 2024.

There is a potential of 3.000 MW for the generation of electricity with biogas from the recovery and use of methane from old waste.imales, urban solid waste and sewage treatment, according to estimates by the Government of Mexico.

The 70% of projects with biogas that have been developed in Mexico have been financed through the Clean Development Mechanism.

One of the first experiences in the country is the company Bioenergía de Nuevo León (BENLESA), a pioneering project (2003) in Mexico and Latin America that uses as fuel the biogas generated in a sanitary landfill (landfill of urban waste) in the municipality of Salinas Victoria, Nuevo León in the north of the country, one of the states with the highest industrial activity.

This project is the result of a public-private alliance between the company Bioeléctrica de Monterrey, the Government of the State of Nuevo León and the company Sistemas de Energía Internacional SA de CV (SEISA). 19 million tons of municipal solid waste are used and it has a generation capacity of 40.000 MWh / year, which allows it to supply 40% of the public lighting in the metropolitan area of Monterrey.

The growing problem of the collection and handling of garbage in large Mexican cities; the challenges and commitments of Mexico against climate change, together with the Energy Reform that stimulates the generation of electricity from cleaner energy sources, By establishing the immediate deductibility of investments, they offer an interesting panorama for the development of renewable energies and in particular of technologies for the use of biomass, which are still very unknown.

It is because of that Expobiomasa 2017 organize a Business round with Mexico the next September 26, in which they participate for the moment  17 Mexican businessmen and professionals, from 12 companies and to which entrepreneurs interested in making commercial agreements or venturing into the Mexican market can join.
