Sant Pere de Torelló (Barcelona), 30 years heating up with biomass

heat network in sant pere rorello

The municipality of Sant Pere de Torelló was one of the first points in Spain where a district heating installation was carried out more than 30 years ago. Over the years, the existing steel pipes have deteriorated and, therefore, the City Council decided to replace the old network with the polymeric pre-insulated pipe system.

In the town of Sant Pere de Torelló, the pipe network is connected in an 90% to all the houses in the town as well as to the Town Hall. Both in the municipality of Sant Pere de Torelló and its surroundings there is an important industry dedicated to wood, an industry that generates abundant waste, which has been used for the district heating of the municipality during all these years. As a pioneering bioenergy town, Sant Pere de Torelló has been able to take advantage of thermal energy from the biomass in its surroundings for the supply of heating and sanitary hot water throughout the municipality.
