On Friday, June 16, the Council of Ministers approved a Royal Decree that regulates the direct granting of subsidies to unique projects of local entities that favor the transition to a low-carbon economy.

These grants, for the total amount of 336 millones de euros, will be granted by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) within the framework of the ERDF operational program for sustainable growth 2014-2020. Municipalities or groups of municipalities with a population of less than 20.000 inhabitants, as well as Ceuta and Melilla, may be beneficiaries of the aid.

To get help, the municipalities must reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the execution of unique projects of energy saving and efficiency (in buildings and in infrastructure and public services), sustainable urban mobility (clean urban transport, public transport, urban-rural connection, road network improvements, cycling transport and development of clean energy supply systems) and use renewable energy (for the production of electricity and thermal uses in buildings and public infrastructures).

All the  aid actively contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing the level of CO2 emissions, as well as social cohesion and improvement of the quality of life of citizens in buildings and urban spaces.

The aid may be requested after one calendar month of the publication in the BOE of this Royal Decree; that is to say, from the 18 day of July of 2017.
